GREAT SUCCESS FROM THE FIRST NATIONAL OBSERVATION SATELLITE RASAT
3 YEARS PLANNED FOR 10 YEARS
RASAT, the first national observation satellite designed and manufactured in Turkey, has completed its 10th year in orbit. RASAT, whose design life was planned to be 3 years, has proved that Turkish engineers and technicians can produce a satellite that can last for a long time in the space environment. Launched on August 17, 2011 from Russia, RASAT continues its mission successfully.
FIRST NATIONAL EARTH OBSERVATION SATELLITE
RASAT, the first National Earth Observation Satellite, was produced by TÜBİTAK UZAY. RASAT, the second remote sensing satellite of TÜBİTAK UZAY after the BİLSAT Satellite, did not receive any consultancy or external support during the production process.
PASSES OVER TURKEY 4 TIMES A DAY
RASAT passed over Turkey 4 times a day for 10 years. It took images from all over the Earth with 7.5 meters black-and-white and 15 meters multispectral resolution without any restrictions. The images from RASAT, which is in orbit simultaneously with the sun at an altitude of approximately 700 kilometers, are downloaded to the ground station at TÜBİTAK UZAY.
IMAGES ON THE TRAVELER
After the necessary corrections are made at the station, the images are uploaded to GEZGİN, the first domestic satellite image portal. Images obtained by RASAT, www.gezgin.gov.tr It can be accessed by logging in with the e-Government password from the website.
AT THE SERVICE OF CITIZENS FREE OF CHARGE
The images obtained free of charge from GEZGİN can be used in many areas such as identifying oil spills in the seas, monitoring urban development, land use, agriculture, monitoring water levels in dams, urban planning and mapping.
TRANSFER TO NATIONAL EQUIPMENT GOKTURK-2
RASAT is equipped with national satellite equipment such as a flight computer, x-band transmitter and infrared camera. These components were also used in the reconnaissance satellite GÖKTÜRK-2, which was launched into space in 2012. Having successfully realized its mission of creating an infrastructure and information unit in the field of space with RASAT, TÜBİTAK UZAY has carried this mission even further with GÖKTÜRK-2 Satellite.
IMECE AND TURKSAT 6 A ARE NEXT
TÜBİTAK UZAY is simultaneously undertaking the design and production of the sub-meter resolution earth observation satellite İMECE and the first domestic communication satellite TÜRKSAT 6A. These two satellites are planned to be launched into space in the coming years.
CELEBRATED ITS 10TH ANNIVERSARY AT IDEF
A model of RASAT, which has successfully completed 10 years in space, is now on display at the 21st IDEF International Defense Industry Fair. The model attracts the attention of visitors to the fair. TÜBİTAK UZAY officials inform visitors about RASAT, Turkey's first national observation satellite.
