The Space Qualified Material Technologies Symposium was organized on 14-15 December 2015 at the Istanbul Harbiye Military Museum and Culture Site in order to introduce the projects completed and being carried out in Turkey, to reveal the current situation of Turkey in the field of satellite subsystem and material technologies, and to determine short and long-term goals in this context.
In this way, it was aimed to direct existing resources to the right areas by preventing duplicate studies and investments in the country, to determine the infrastructure needs for the development of domestic space-qualified material technologies, to increase the level of awareness among relevant public institutions / organizations and industry and to increase the level of domestic technological readiness, to share government incentives within the scope of R&D projects and infrastructure establishment and current planning in this context.
The symposium was held under the coordination of the Ministry of National Defense, Ministry of Development, Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology, TÜBİTAK Presidency and TÜBİTAK MAM.
At the symposium, Okan Saldoğan, an expert from TÜBİTAK International Cooperation Department, presented "EU Framework Programs Supports", Mustafa Ekinci, Expert Researcher from TÜBİTAK Space Optical Systems Group, presented "High Resolution Cameras and Composite Material Applications" and "Optical Systems Research and Application Laboratory", Altuğ Okan, Senior Researcher from TÜBİTAK Space Aerodynamics and Thermal Design Group, presented "Thermal Control System Materials", Researcher Mustafa Türkmenoğlu from TÜBİTAK Space Production, Assembly, Integration and Testing Group made a presentation titled "TÜBİTAK Space Technologies Research Institute Test Infrastructure", Muzaffer Çetin from TÜBİTAK Space Structural and Mechanical Design Group made a presentation titled "Satellite Propulsion System Fuel Tank Design", and Researcher Barış Çolak from TÜBİTAK Space Platform Power Systems Group made a presentation titled "Reaction Wheel". In addition, TÜBİTAK Science Board Member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bilge Demirköz made a presentation titled "Particle Radiation Tests Creation Laboratory".
TÜBİTAK UZAY actively participated in the symposium and exhibited its capabilities at the booth it opened on the first day of the symposium. TÜBİTAK Science Board Member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bilge Demirköz, Director of TÜBİTAK Space Technologies Research Institute Assoc. Dr. Lokman Kuzu and TÜBİTAK UZAY researchers who were speakers during the Symposium also had the opportunity to meet with representatives of other relevant institutions and organizations.
