3rd Meeting of the Moon Scientific Working Group was Held

The 3rd Meeting of the Lunar Scientific Working Group, organized within the scope of the Lunar Program, which is considered an important stage in Turkey's space journey, was held on 11-12 February 2025 at METU Culture and Congress Center with a wide participation. At the meeting organized by TÜBİTAK UZAY, the latest developments within the scope of Turkey's first lunar mission and the "Ali Kuşçu Science, Exploration and Mapping Objectives" were shared.

The opening speeches of the meeting were delivered by METU Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Yozgatlıgil, TÜBİTAK UZAY Institute Director Mehmet Nefes, TÜBİTAK UZAY Lunar Research Program Leader Dr. Burak Yağlıoğlu and Turkish Space Agency representative Ali Baygeldi. During the meeting, which was attended by scientists, engineers and industry representatives, opportunities for cooperation with national and international stakeholders and the roadmap for the future were discussed comprehensively.

In this context, the progress of products developed in critical areas such as the lunar telescope, radiation measurement devices, imaging systems and propulsion technologies were shared with the participants.

In his speech at the meeting, TUBITAK UZAY Institute Director Mehmet Nefes said: "We came together in a more crowded and focused manner compared to previous meetings. We aim to produce stronger results in the coming period. Our aim is not only to showcase Turkey's technological capabilities, but also to contribute to the knowledge accumulation of all humanity through international cooperation."

While these steps taken within the scope of Turkey's Lunar Program reveal the country's determined progress in the field of space, it was emphasized that the Lunar Scientific Working Group meetings will play a critical role in determining the future roadmap. At the end of the meeting, stakeholders exchanged views on the activities to be carried out until the next meeting and agreed on areas of cooperation.
