The 3rd Meeting of the Lunar Scientific Working Group Was Held

The 3rd Meeting of the Lunar Scientific Working Group, organized within the scope of Türkiye’s Lunar Program, which is considered a significant milestone in the country's space journey, was held on February 11-12, 2025, at the METU Culture and Congress Center with broad participation. Hosted by TÜBİTAK UZAY, the meeting featured discussions on the latest developments in Türkiye’s first lunar mission and its "Ali Kuşçu Science, Exploration, and Mapping Objectives."

The opening speeches were delivered by METU Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Yozgatlıgil, TÜBİTAK UZAY Institute Director Mehmet Nefes, TÜBİTAK UZAY Lunar Research Program Leader Dr. Burak Yağlıoğlu, and Turkish Space Agency representative Ali Baygeldi. The event brought together scientists, engineers, and industry representatives, facilitating comprehensive discussions on potential cooperation opportunities with national and international stakeholders and the future roadmap of the program.

In this context, updates were shared on key technological advancements, including the lunar telescope, radiation measurement devices, imaging systems, and propulsion technologies.

Speaking at the meeting, TÜBİTAK UZAY Institute Director Mehmet Nefes stated: "We have gathered in a larger and more focused manner compared to previous meetings. Our goal is to achieve even stronger outcomes in the upcoming period. Our aim is not only to showcase Türkiye’s technological capabilities but also to contribute to the collective knowledge of humanity through international cooperation."

These steps taken within the scope of Türkiye’s Lunar Program highlight the country’s determined progress in space exploration. It was emphasized that Lunar Scientific Working Group meetings will play a crucial role in shaping the program’s future roadmap. At the conclusion of the meeting, stakeholders exchanged views on the activities to be carried out until the next meeting and reached agreements on areas of collaboration.
