As the TÜBİTAK Space Technologies Research Institute (TÜBİTAK UZAY), we actively drive institutional initiatives to raise environmental awareness, optimize natural resource management, and secure a sustainable future.
Applications under KABEV
Our energy efficiency initiatives under the Public Buildings Energy Efficiency Project (PBEE – KABEV) form a core pillar of our sustainability strategy. The comprehensive upgrades conducted at our institute under this project are strategically designed to maximize our building performance, curb energy consumption, lower carbon emissions, and integrate sustainable energy sources across our facilities.
Within the scope of the project, our buildings underwent a series of advanced engineering modernizations. High-efficiency thermal insulation was applied to the building facades to minimize heat loss and optimize overall thermal performance. Thanks to the solar energy systems installed on-site, a portion of our buildings’ electricity needs is now met by renewable sources.
Our institute has also undergone a comprehensive renovation of its HVAC and heating infrastructure. Heating centers and high-efficiency VRF air conditioning systems are being installed to replace the old systems. With the implementation of Building Management Systems (BMS) and energy monitoring systems, mechanical equipment operates more efficiently, and energy consumption is monitored on a regular basis.
Yapılan yenileme çalışmalarının binaların yıllık toplam enerji tüketiminde %36’ya varan tasarruf sağlaması ve yıllık 435 ton karbon emisyonunu engellemesi öngörülüyor. Bu çalışmalar, Enstitümüzün enerji verimliliği ve çevresel sürdürülebilirlik hedeflerine önemli katkı sunuyor.
Zero Waste and Other Initiatives
Beyond these large-scale infrastructure upgrades, TÜBİTAK UZAY systematically enforces zero-waste protocols to minimize our daily environmental footprint. We strictly segregate paper, plastic, and electronic waste at the source, a process heavily supported by strategically placed recycling stations and continuous employee awareness programs. In tandem with waste management, facility lighting is being systematically upgraded to automated LED systems to eliminate unnecessary energy drain. We are also accelerating our transition toward paperless operations by shifting document management and internal communication channels into digital workflows.
At TÜBİTAK UZAY, expanding eco-friendly operations remains a primary objective. As we pioneer the space technologies of tomorrow, we remain fully committed to preserving our world today.
